Outdoor Games for kids
Keep the grandchildren amused can be tiring, especially when you can’t think of what to do with them. Remember to state your rules about neighbours, roads, mess and cleaning up.
Here are some ideas for playing outside:.
- Ball games – cricket, football, soccer, simple catch, basket ball, hand ball
- Chasey/Tag
- Skipping rope
- A bucket of water, a paint brush and a brick wall – great fun on a hot day
- Lie on the grass and look at the sky and find animals amongst the clouds
- Hopscotch
- Statue
- Musical chairs
- Kite flying
- Totem tennis
- Quoits
- Darts
- Chinese skippy / elastics
- more playground style games and activities
- Running through the sprinkler
- Billy carting
- Tree house
- Make a race track in the yard for match box cars out of whatever is around (pipes, timber, sand) – add obstacles, buildings, bridges
- Play Red Rover or Capture the flag
Hopscotch
What you need: Chalk, marker and concrete to draw on
How to play: first, draw the ‘court’ (a pattern of numbered squares). For each turn throw the marker on to squares (in number order) and hop around the court without using the square containing the marker.
